Overview

Food, trade and everyday life across the upper Mekong

Travel from Ben Tre’s coconut country to Long Xuyen, Chau Doc and the orchards around Cao Lanh, following produce from farms and household workshops to river trade and borderland markets.

An early floating-market visit, Khmer food traditions, preserved foods and orchard visits give each stop a different regional focus. The journey begins and ends in Saigon, with enough time in Long Xuyen and Chau Doc to experience them as more than transit points.

Route and overnight stops

One night in Long Xuyen supports an early floating-market visit. Two nights in Chau Doc allow enough time for the borderland markets, food traditions and surrounding communities before returning to Ho Chi Minh City for a final night.
